I recently went to XP home and everything seems to work fine but I get system hangs or freezes when I used Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 or 3.0. Are these programs no compatible with XP? I don't want to go out and buy any new photoediting software as these have worked well for me for several years.
The problem seems to happen especially when I try to export a photo to save it in a different format. As soon as I hit the export button everything freezes and even the task manager won't close it down. I have to reset the computer. Sometimes the program won't even finish loading. It hangs just before I can start using it.
Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, appreciated.

From a Microsoft web page:
If an older application gives you trouble when running
Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
1. Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the
executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you?re finished changing the
settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the
program is still not running smoothly: a program that's
unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.

Yes, I should have mentioned too that I've tried compatibility mode. Same thing. Just tried it again (just in case) before this response and as I write this, Photodeluxe 3.0 is hung up and won't respond. Turning off any other programs such as virus scanners as well, does not stop the problem.
Anything else? Thanks in advance.

Update: I tried 95 compatibility and 98 again. This time I get a message along the lines of "Unable to load PSUT9532.DLL. Won't support 16 bit plug in's. Continue?"
If I continue it still hangs.
Flat out though: compatibility isn't doing squat. . .
Although this program ran in 98SE for years fine. Also, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling BTW. . .

Just a thought did you change the execution file which installs the software into W95 compatibility mode? Then run the program in W95 comp mode? Yes that it two instances of comp mode, I have had some success with this on early W3.x/95 software under XP!
