Comment:

I have multiple photo processing programs. Th scanner and printer come with their programs as well as adobe 4 and xps version paint. They all seem towant to use their programs. When I copy a picture to another program my pictures sometime disappear. I have not deleted them yetr even using the search wizard I cant find them. they are notin the recycle bin. I have found some classified as abm files but cannot open them .I dont know what kind of file this is. They were in other formats origionally such as jpeg or bitmap or pdf. What am I doing wrong?

Try Irfanview for loading and saving in practically any format

My personal recommendations

tiff, png, jpeg and gif are the safest. Each have different strengths

For lines and shapes type pictures and graphs, gif is good

For photos that you want to email to 1000 people, use jpeg

For archiving scans, tiff (but they are huge)

For a good compromise, png.

Different programs will have their own formats to try and prevent you from using a competitor.
