From time to time I am getting a drive K showing as a CD Drive. It has disappeared, but now (Jan 6 2008 11 PM EST) it is back.

Or it's a hidden device such as a usb device which has been unplugged.
Go to Device Manager>View and click on Show Hidden Devices. You can then delete the driver for the phantom.

It's up in the left hand corner of the link;

It's a good day when you learn something

Are you running any cd burning or cd clone software? Usual reason for this post. They create a virtual cd drive which gets assigned a drive letter.
Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?

Thanks for the comments.
OnTheHill ... I copied the link that took me to the post on the Ottawaforums. Thanks Dan Penny for identifying the link.
I have just repeated the current link here.

I have had other USB devices including a camera. For the USB stick memories I stop and remove the devices.
Where I have had an external USB HardDrive (Tony_H) and removed it, I have set the properties to allow it to be removed without stopping. I have had no problem with the hard drive (VOL TONY_H).
I have this phantom K: drive which system thinks is a CD:
It has gone away and returned? I have rebooted the machine with no change.I'm guessing the virtual drive from some software could be the answer. I am surprised no one else has seen this. I don't think I'm doing anything exotic.
