Hi all, I have and use an external hd drive, which is often moved from pc to pc (between 4 at home when network is down and or family's pc's). the drive is nothing more than data. I find it very frustrating to continually have to open properties and enable sharing whenever I transfer it. Is there a way I can set it to permanently share to save me doing this all the time? It's only because, if say 1 of my pc's goes down I move the drive to a working pc, but as the down pc is running again the drive is inaccessable without running through the share process again. XP tries to keep the same drive letter each time you install it. Try making the drive letter a high letter common to all such as Q:. For some reason I think it ought to work. I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
