why cant i open pdf files. Ihave tried downloading the new version of adobe reader but it keeps saying theirwas a problem with setup and wont let me install as the older version of adobe is in use and cannot be removed, when i have tried to delete the old version i get told that it is unable to delete it. When i try to open a pdf file i get a message saying internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close and then it closes, any suggestions?

Suggestions? I have a couple:

1 - Disable anything Adobe Reader-related in your StartUp (in 'msconfig'), particularly its update function.

2 - The installation error you're getting is probably MSI-related (MS Installer). Sidebar; get/install/run Microsoft's own "Windows Installer Clean Up' utility.

3 - Try FoxitReader instead for PDF files.

Uh-oh! That's 3 suggestions already! I'm outta here...

I second that... get rid of Adobe... it's big and clunky. Foxit is free, small and works well.

A third recommendation for the Foxitreader.

Make that 5, Adobe is about 15mb vs Foxit at about 1.5mb

You could try to download Adobe reader again and then uninstall it. This should overwrite the existing adobe folders and registry entries and thus repair the corrupt file(s). Make sure you download the correct version (which is it???). The version is usually under the "help" option in the menu bar at the top of the screen, then click "about..."
