Ever since I installed XP, I don't get the crisp sound from my SB 128 that I did 98SE. It's like hissing, not loud, but I can hear it enough that it sounds like I'm playing a tape or something. I installed the creative drivers for XP also, with no improvement. Anyone else have this problem, or know how I could fix this?

Doesn't solve this specific problem, I tried it. The destortion comes from hard drive activity, and mouse movement (is this what you're having probs with too Mark?). I found a half ass solution for playing mp3s without this annoying sound, lower the cd volume to the bottom. Of course, this doesn't help much for playing cd music, which is why I'm searching for a better means.

THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT I"M HAVING! Except i'm using a C-media 8378 sound card. Maybe this has something to do with the harddrive?

The following SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM may (hopefully) help some of you:
go to the BIOS-setup and change the "PCI Latency Timer" (usually in the "advanced" section). I changed it from 32 to 45 (or so) and the cracky sound disappeared (almost) completely.
