I'm building a new PC. I have 6 PCI slots. What would you put where? I will only have a phone modem, NCI, and SCSI card to install. Thanks for your suggestions. I've seen this info somewhere and should have written it down but did not. If I remember correctly it helped avoid IRQ conflicts. Thanks again.

It doesn't matter what you put where.
In 99.9% of cases Windows will sort itself out quite happily. Problems, when they do rarely occur, usually crop up when you add something to a running system but even this is almost unheard of these days.

Just put them in the best order for you to hook cables on the back. Always refer to your motherboard book on any motherboard issues but on this issue it dont matter.

typically, you don't want to put your SCSI card in the first slot under the AGP slot.
otherwise, put the other cards wherever. if your BIOS has the ability to show IRQ settings, make sure the NIC and SCSI are not sharing with each other, or the video card.

Depending on what mobo you have, the IRQs will be shared. My Abit board has the AGP slot and first and fifth PCI slots shared, and the 2nd and 6th slots shared. As a result, I have my AGP card then a space, then my second card (in your case probably your SCSI card) then another space and then finally a space and my third card. Doing it this way, avoids IRQ conflicts all together and leaves a space between your cards to help cooling.
The reason I'd put your SCSI card second is to get it closer to the BUS (that is why your AGP card is at the top) - makes very little difference but it is the card that needs the quickest path. Now I know that everyone else has it a different way and it probably works fine - but this is the way I do it and recommend it to be done.
