Comment:

None of the pci devices attached to my computer will detect (modem and tv tuner card)…. I have been running windows xp pro for 5 months and after purchasing and installing a new hard drive (120GB and using the old 60GB as a slave)… I did a fresh installation of windows xp on my new drive to find that none of my pci devices will detect. It keeps trying to install the missing driver “PCI simple communications controller” …. I have just formatted again… fresh install. With devices out and put them in after the installation. It didn’t help.

I have tried
1. switch them arround
a. removing both cards
b. restarting and shutting down again
c. putting the modem in the slot that the TV tuner card was in (I believe it was slot 4)
d. start windows (same message) ---- shut down
e. install tv tuner card where modem was (slot 2)
f. start windows (same message… neither is detecting)
g. please note that I have installed all the drivers for them modem and tv tuner card. And all the extra drivers off the mother board cd
2. reinstalling windows without the devices on the system (hearing that other people have had problems when they format and reinstall windows xp while there pci communication devices are still attached.
3. reinstalling drivers
4. probably more but just to tierd to remember (its 1AM)

My system specs as follows
AMD Athlon XP 2400
ASUS A7V8X Mobo
512MB PC2700 (333mhz) DDR
128MB Abit Geforce 4 Ti4200 Graphics
120GB Segate HDD running as the master
60GB segate running as the slave
Flyvideo 3000 FM tv tuner card
A (something) systems – standard pci plug and play 56k modem

Please all comments are truly welcomed… and greatly appreciated. I have tests and assignments due next week and need to be able to access the net on my pc…

Thanks in advance
Cheers
Nic

the first thing i would suggest is that u disconnect the 60gig drive totally, then do a fresh install, see if there are any conflicts from the software on your old drive, also check in the bios to allow your OS to install and detect hardware

I have the fly video card as well but I havent installed the driver for it since I reformatted but I can. I just havent done it. It shows in device manager as a multimedia controller with a yellow ?. If I install the driver from the cd it shows then as the fly video. As to your modem it should show in deivce manager as the pci communications controller if it doesnt have a driver. It should be atleast listed in device manager. Do you not show anything under other devices in device manager or anything with yellow ? marks?

A (something) systems ?????

You are going to have to find out what your modem is to be able to install the driver. Xp doesnt always install a driver automatically and you will probably have to go to the manuafactor website to get the latest xp driver for it.

you first need to identify the devices, the "PCI Simple Communications Contoller" is window's way of saying it found an unkown device connected to your modem. http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/ has a program you can download called "Unknown Devices.zip" this .exe file should help you identify which device it is. If you get an error message like "unable to locate PCI list" just ignore it
it should then show the devices that need drivers, read the part that comes after VEN_ it should list numbers/letters which is the Vendor code. Then open up the PCI list that is included in the download and find the corresponding code. This code should state which driver is needed to run the device. Hope this helps.
