Hello,
My Modem doesn't work after I upgraded to windows XP. Can anyone tell me where I can get the driver file for the "PCI Simple Communication Controller". Please send me the file or a URL because I can't find it anywhere on the net. The motherboard is a PC400 Systemboard P4 Mainboard M920.Can anyone help me!!!
Thanks

The modem has one marking on it and its 'CE 0197 X" its a 56k data/fax modem. I have already installed the standard driver that comes with xp and it reconized the modem, But it still can't work because i need to driver for the "PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATION CONTROLLER"
hope you can help
thanks

Find the FCC ID number on the modem and type the number in Google search with a few words like "modem' and "driver".

Try uninstalling the modem and drivers first - click on Control Panel > System > Device Manager > double click - Modems > right click - uninstall, click OK.
Reboot your computer and the Found New Hardware wizard should start, put the modem drivers CD into the drive and follow the onscreen instructions - make sure the XP drivers are the ones selected - and finish the process. Reboot and you should find it working ok. If not go to the Manufacturers website and look for the latest XP drivers.

Im not using a hub, i just need the driver for the PCI Simple Communication Controller. The modem driver CD is only for everything up to windows ME, No XP.

Than put it back in and make sure its in firmly. reconnect your comp and if your running XP the comp should automatically recognize the modem. Beleive me I am so glad i found tis out . I have tried to install all the drivers that tech support suggested to no avail. just give it a shot and let me know . Peace

Thank goodness I read far enough down the page to follow the above advice. Keep it simple. It worked. Thank you Houmher!

Hardware:
Gateway 9300 Solo (400Mhz PII) 288 MB ram.
Win XP Home with all the latest patches.Same Problem:
What if it's a laptop and the modem is integrated. I have a Gateway Solo 9300 laptop with the 3com modem and now there's the same "PCI Simple Comm Controller" device which needs a driver. Since I can't reseat the modem what should I do and or where can I find the appropriate the drivers? This was working for about six months when all of a sudden my USB port detected excessive voltage and then this PCI Controller issue hit. After looking on the web and reading the other problems I've found that my modem was also missing from the device manager....:(
Any help would be greatly appreciated... I have not had any other problems with XP Home on my other Laptop or Desktop machines.
Thanks,
Mark

I have a Sony Vaio and have almost the exact same problem. Once I upgraded to XP it worked for about 6 months and I turned out one day and it no longer worked. HELP ME TOO PLEASE!!!

One day I have installed Windows Update about Motorola modem (my terrible error... before my speakerphone modem was perfect..). I had W2000. Now XP Pro, but problems don't disappear.
