Hello,
I have just installed windows xp, now my modem doesn't work. In device manager it says the 'PCI Simple Communication Controller' driver is not installed. I have looked everywhere for this driver and can't find it. Can someone email it to me? or send me a URL to download it.Thanks

The modem does not have any name on it, the only marking on the card is CE 0197 X. On some of the IC's on the board have these markings Ambient MD5628D-L-B , Ambient MD1724T-11VC-B and SHINMEI. I know the modem is a 56K Data Fax modem.
Hope that helps

come to think of it, you could just use the standard 56000 bps driver included with windows. I've used this successfully with lots of different modems.
good luck

Hey Dannyboy,
I have installed the standard 56000 bps driver, the modem is reconized, but when I try to perform a test. It say its not there, and the PCI Simple Communication Controller is still highlighted in device manager, there is no driver installed for the controller? Do you know where I can get the driver for this controller, i have looked everywhere.
Cheers

did you install it on the right com port nook?
if that doesn't help, you could try downloading aida32 to see if that tells you what model your modem is.
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
alternatively, did the modem come with your pc? If so, maybe you could get the driver from the manufacturer's website.
post back if you need to....

I tried aida32 no contact with modem, it using com1 right now, it says everythings fine until you try to run a test. here is the FCC number for the modem 5634PCW, I still just need the "PCI Simple Communication Controller", if I get that driver im sure it will work.
Hope to hear from you soon

the "PCI Simple Communication Controller" is just a generic hardware term - there is no specific driver for that.
however, the FCC number helps (a lot!)
try here:

there seem to be 2 variants of your modem, depending on its chipset, but I think the driver you want will either be fourth or fifth from the bottom.
hope it works :)

Hi Nook,
Try using the driver from the intel website for an Intel 536EP. Worked for a modem that a friend could not get working which had the same chipset as yours. These drivers worked under 98 and XP when I tested them.I take it that you have no way of accessing the internet from your XP machine? If you can, as has been mentioned before use the windows update option when updating the driver from device manager. This was how I found what the modem was to start with.
