PCI Simple Communication Controller Erro

I am upgrading to Windows XP Home from 98SE and find I have no PCI Simple Communication Controller after the installation. I have seen from previous posts that upgrading the BIOS should help with this problem. Only thing is my system board manufacturer's BIOS flash program hasn't been working. Does anyone know of a "back door" way of updating the BIOS for compatability with XP?

Well, I had a similar problem and chances are that a driver for your modem needs to be updated so, take a look at your modem site and try to look for the winXp or win2000 or winNt drivers for your modem.

well i have winxp....and it does not connect to the internet .it keep telling me that it cant find the software for(PCI Simple Communication Controller ) i dont know what to do...in the device manager its the only one with the (? and ! ) help me...pls

I had the same problem with my PCI modem... All I did was manually select (update) a generic driver for my modem from the WinXP CD-ROM (I used "Aztech SoftK56 Data Fax PCI Modem" under Generic) and then everything worked fine - or I wouldn't be here now! =]

i did have the same problem with the pci controller i updated my modem's drivers but i still have yellow questionmarks for 2 devices attached to my video and audio controller.can anyone help as to how get rid of these 2 terrible yellow things???
