PC2NetBk usb cable?

Dear experts, I have a new netbook and would like to discharge programs and folders directly from my PC. Can I use a normal Male-Male USD cable? Or will something explode? I ask this because in olden times, a PC to PC serial cable to transfer things had the TX Rx wires crossed in the cable itself. Maybe this doesn't happen with the USB protocols. Bye Fred
