I have an eMachine T6211 with Athlon 3200 Processor.
It refuses to boot up.
I ran the restore disc and it booted up. After a day it started having problems. It starts up, get to the eMachine bios splash screen and then restarts. Does this continuously.
I replaced the hard drive & ran the restore disc again. It worked for a day and then starts the restarting problem again. I tried different memory, same problem.I tried restoring it again with the restore disc. Took several tries but finally got it to restore. It worked for about 3 minutes and restarted but won't boot into windows. It gets to a black screen with the curser flashing in the top left hand corner and stops there.
Any ideas on what I should try?

if that computer has onboard video, i would install an addon video card.
should fix it.
also, in system icon, open advanced, open bottom settings line, uncheck auto restat

OK, I installed a PCI video card that I pulled from my main PC.
Same thing. It shows the e-Machines bios splash screen then stops at a black screen with a flashing curser in the top left corner.
Anything else I can try?
Hobo

did you uncheck automatically restart as mentioned? If so, post the EXACT error that comes up.
Also E-machines are notorious for failing power supplies. If you have another, maybe try that....that's my guess.

OK, I was able to boot in safe mode, I unchecked the Auto Restart and it started working.
So I then tried to uninstall the Norton Untilities that is installed with the restore disk. It gave me an error message.
I then downloaded AVG Free edition and tried to install that. Got another error message.
I then downloaded FireFox and tried to install that. Got an error message.
I rebooted and now the PC won't boot again.
I get the screen that says "Windows did not shut down properly". I click on "Safe Mode" and it never leaves that screen.
Reboot and this time I select "Last Known Good Config" and it never leaves that screen.
Reboot and select "Start Windows Normally" and it never leaves that screen.
Reboot and let the countdown time out and it never leaves that screen. Now that I have a new video card installed maybe I should just run the restore disc again.
Any ideas.
Thanks
Hobo

Yes>>>>maybe I should just run the restore disc again.<<<<
then go to the norton website and use their uninstaller....if you don't remove the norton stuff on your PC....no other AV will work properly. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

That seems to have fixed it. I've used the computer for about an hour last night and rebooted it several times.
So far so good!
Thanks again for your help. That computer was driving me crazy.
