HELP!!! I switched pc off at night and it wouldn't start up next morning. The fans run and lights come on at the front of the unit. Screen stays black with green flashing light in front of monitor. Tried rebooting from Windows XP cdrom but nothing coming up on screen although I can hear it whirring in cd drive. Also noticed that my modem has none of it's lights flashing. Tried starting pc with modem disconnected but still nothing. Any hints gratefully received.

sounds like one of three things: RAM, CPU, or PSU. is everything plugged in tightly? open it up and make sure all RAM and connections are seated correctly. if that doesn't help, troubleshoot the PSU, RAM, and CPU, in that order. try disconnecting then reconnecting the PSU cord to the motherboard. then maybe try a differant PSU, then differant RAM, etc. one at a time. has anything changed?? any power flashes?

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

I realize this isn't going to be helpful but I just can't resist mentioning here that I have noticed there is a common denomination between threads and it is this: HELP!!! I switched pc off at night and it wouldn't start up next morning.

Thanks for the suggestions Dragon306, but I have no idea where to start trying the things you suggest (fine with software, no experience with hardware). If you're able to give me more detailed instruction, I'd liketo give it a go though.

Hi,

What is Psu ?
I reinserted the ram.Cpu I cannot test because it does not boot.

I tried to open a medion note book, did´nt at that time find our where the hiden screws were and closed it back. Now it wont boot !
the screen came off alittle difficult and I am afraid a wire might have gotten tossed a bit. It won´t start up with an external screen either.
same symptoms as confy girl.
hear fan; ligth on; cd engages; nothing.comes up on the screen.

Any body ?know whattodo ?
