Comment:

My roommate has an HP Vectra VL420MT computer, and up until now, he had been receving an error message upon startup, but could still boot up the computer by doing a crtl-alt-delete. However, since installing a CD-RW drive, he receives the same message, but when he does ctrl-alt-delete, rather than starting like it used to, it returns to the same error screen.
This is what it says:

HP e-Diagtools is missing or has not been found on your bootable hard disk.

If you want to run HP e-Diagtools, you can run it from:
- your HP recovery CD-ROM
- your dedicated HP e-Diagtools CD-ROM.

Hello,

I open up the case and take a look at the hard drive. Find out what manufacturer it is, may not necessarily be HP, and download the hard drive diagnostics tool, and boot it off of the floppy. Make sure after you dl the diagnostics disk off the manufacturer that the floppy drive is set as #1 in the bois boot devices.

The hard drive could have been bumped around during the install of the CD-RW, and might have been damaged.

HTH,

First of all check if the CDRW and HDD are on one and the same channel /datacabel/ if so make sure that jumper on the back of the CDRW is set on SLAVE there is option if the HDD and CDRW are MASTER to get in conflict.
