My pc has been running fine for the last year with no problems. I have been using my girlfriends keyboard which has a usb connection and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get it to recognize the keyboard. That is the only problem I have had. I disconnected my pc and hooked up a co-workers pc to remove some spyware from it and when I was done and hooked back up my pc it won't boot-up windows I see my ASUS logo (splash screen) and I have checked the post screen and everything checks out ok, the Windows XP logo comes up for about 3-5 seconds as if its loading windows, then the XP logo disappears and after a couple seconds it starts all over and I see my ASUS logo (splash screen) and I get the "windows was not shutdown properly with the boot options to choose from "normal, safe mode, last known good config." Doesn't matter what I choose the same thing happens. After none of the boot options worked I reseated the memory and graphics card which did nothing. Don't know if this matters but when the pc restarts itself during boot-up the monitor says "sync out of range". Please help...I was almost at the end of the game F.E.A.R. and I really don't want to re-install Windows,Steam,HL2,Doom, Office XP,Windows updates and play F.E.A.R. all the way to where I was near the end. F.Y.I. I keep an updated virus protector and spyware remover. MOBO = ASUS A7N8X Deluxe,
xp 2500 cpu/ Overclocked to XP3200, Radeon 9800 128mb, 2 - 512mb/duel channel. I also loaded the default BIOS settings which did not help. Please any suggestions, Hi my name is Jay and I'm a Gamer'holic. Pleez help

try a repair install first. that doesn't remove any program or personal files. It might change some customizations to your account though.

If that doesn't work try taking out everything but the grapics card unless you have an integrated card to take its place including priters, usb devices, sound, network, and all others, even extra ram cards and hard drives. This usually works for me. otherwise see if theres any way to enter the system through either a bootdisc or second partition with another OS.

Boot up with your XP CD. Enter the first R for Recovery Console. It will detect your operating system and should ask if you want to log in using admin password. Do so.
When you get to the commandprompt type FIXBOOT
press Enter and answer Y
Then type FIXMBR, press Enter and answer Y.
When finished remove the CD and reboot.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
