Not sure if this is the right place for the question, but here goes.

I have my PC's ATI 9600 @ 1280x768 connected to my 42" Sony Wega with a VGA cable. The image quality is great but the size of the image is a problem.

I either get:

Full 1: Almost fills the entire display on the Sony Wega.

Full 2: Same as Full 1 but a little better. There is less black border all around each side.

Zoom: the zoom is too much and I end up losing a significant chunk of image all around each side

Now I've gone through all the settings of the Vega and there's nothing to correct it. I've checked settings in ATI Control Center and the adjustments do not make a difference. It appears the borders are actually masking the image underneath, so any changes I make only affect the image and not the borders.

Can't see anything wrong. ATI recognizes the SONY TV and applied the settings of 1280x768
but the borders remain, or picture is sacrificed.

Anyhow, I hope that makes sense.

Normally when I watch a DVD, Full Mode works as it should for BSG and fills the entire screen. And of course all other aspect ratios and their corresponding TV mode work great.

I hope someone can help me correct this or at least explain why it won't ever work.

Thanks

Cartman

Cartman, you're not sure this's in the right place. I'm not sure of the answer. Guess that makes us even, sorta.
SWAG, sounds to me like a resolution thing. Try resetting the screen size to something smaller. A smaller size reduces the black border.
Another thing you might try is to resize the image by positioning your cursor over one of the border corners 'till it becomes a double-ended arrow, then dragging/droping to the correct size. Hopefully, Windows will remember and display it that way next time.

Thanks, Ed in Texas, but no go.

I did contact my genetic other half who owns an almost exact same TV (older model of WEGA). He changed the monitor in device manager to a Digital Flap Panel. He was then able to select 1152x648 resolution and it fit great.

I tried the same and can now access some different resolutions but the closest I could find was 1152x864 ... argh!

Maybe there is there a way to force 1152x648?

I'll keep trying. Any suggestions anyone?

Tried Powerstrip .. tried modified Radeon drivers .. no go. 1152x648 not an option.

No adjustments will adjust the mask surrounding the desktop. It's really not that bad but it could be better.

Hope someone has an idea cause I am out of them.
