PC Speaker Beeps....

Hi guys

I'm not altogether sure what I've done, but I recently reformatted my PC and clean installed XP. I installed all the drivers necessary and everything's running great.

The only strange thing is that now, whenever I have MSN Messenger open and a contact signs in, the PC Speaker beeps!

If sounds are enabled in the Messenger options menu, then it beeps AND the normal Messenger sound is heard!!??

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Messenger but to no avail.

Can someone help me out? It would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

JM

I don't use MS messenger but many similiar programs have an option to set a sound to alert when a new message is available. Check the MS messenger settings.

Thanks OtheHill, however, as I mentioned in my post, the beeps occur ASWELL AS the MSN sound.

When the sound is turned off for all alerts in MSN, it still beeps and I don't know why.

This didn't happen before I reinstalled XP so I know I've done something.....but what??......

Thanks

Can anyone else help?

Well, as I said I don't use the app but I can tell you this. The beeps you hear when starting your computer come from a small component on the MBoard that looks nothing like a speaker. That device is on by default. If you also have a sound card and speakers they are also working. So I am guessing the beep you are hearing is from the MBoard itself. Sorry I can't be of more help.

No probs OtheHill, I appreciate the response.

Is there anyone else who's had the same problem?

Could/should I try to disable the PC Speaker altogether, is this possible?

I would look at MSN Messenger for an option to stop the beeps. A don't know of any way to disable the MBoard speaker.
