PC shuts off in XP only on Win7/XP dual boot.

Specs: Windows XP
My computer is a dual boot system. I have xp on my SATA drive and Windows 7 on an IDE drive. When I
am in XP, it will randomly and suddenly without warning shut off. Usually if I am on line only. I can run a game or a movie and it stays on. Browse the internet, and it shuts off.
(not restarts, shuts off). If
I boot it into Windows 7, I have no problems with the system. This happened before, and I thought it was the HDD since it then started clinking. Replaced it with a new drive and new install and I have the same exact problem. Now thinking back, I think it was the random shut downs that caused the drive to go bad and not the other way around

AMD dual core processor 2200 mhz, Abit NF-M2S
mobo. onboard video, sound, and nic. 500W power supply.

Any ideas, much appreciated.

The boot files are on seperate drives. I unplugged one while installing the other on purpose. So, i either hit the f11 to choose which drive or change the first boot drive in the bios. XP is totally up to date.
