Where is the control for what happens when a flash drive is inserted into a USB socket ? In some PCs, a Windows Explorer screen opens as for a new drive; in other PCs a dialog box opens with many choices, and the default option selected, also differs between PCs.

It depends what is on the USB drive. If it is empty then it will appear as a new drive. If it has mp3's, jpegs and other files, you will get the option window giving you the choice as to which program you want to open with. It also depends on the software installed on the host computer. If software needed for the files on the USB are not present, then the options will not be given.
