Hello, I would like to know if there is a way to download (c:\preload\base_20.inp) when I was running pc recovery with my cd's it told me that it was missing. I need this to complete the installation and get back into windows. Thank you for your time in this matter, Bev.

Most likely dust or a fingerpint on the CD.Clean it carefully and try again.

It is bad luck to be superstitious.

Thank you I will try this again but I also would like to tell you that it will be the tenth attempt and each time I clean the cd and the same problem comes up. I would like some more ideas in fixing this problem besides ordering cd's from HP. I would really like to be able to use my other computer, thank you once again, Bev.

Have you tried sfc /scannow from the recovery console, or chkdsk, or fixboot, or fixmbr.

To use these commands, you will have to boot with a winxp cd, choose to boot to the recovery console, then type each command one at a time and try again after each one. A long process unless you get lucky but i may work.

Hello, I don't have
recovery console and as to xp cd it was pre-installed on my computer. The recovery disk's that I have failed on the second disk, I've tried several times to clean and install them but nothing worked. I did find a program (Active boot disk) and was able to get into my computer and I'm backing everything up into my external hard drive then I'm going to clean it and try a clean install the os from the other hard drive. If this doesn't work I'll try installing full ver xp cd, witch I have ordered, Thenk you for your time in this matter. Bev.
