PC powers on automatically

I have a new EMachines T1980 with XP. When I shutdown, the pc powers off like it should. Then sometime later it comes back on automatically. I'm able to keep it from doing this by unplugging the phoneline from the modem. But once I plug it back in, it immediately powers on.

Right...
Try looking in your BIOS and see if there is some setting that tells the computer to turn on when the modem is plugged in(maybe when a call is received?). A simple solution otherwise would just be to flip the power switch on the back of the case to off after it's powered off. This will prevent it from turning back on without your consent.
