Malwarebytes will probably get rid of it.

See response 1:

Note that sometimes you can only install Malwarebytes in Safe mode - in that case, loading Safe mode with networking is required in order for it to be able to update itself.

can't run it in safe mode either.Windows file association (an online program) page pulls up every time I try to run Malwarebytes or Super AntiSpyware. Can't redownload them, tried that too.
Just changed Malwarebytes name to mapp.bat and it downloaded. Running scan now. Thanks We'll see if it works.

Was able to run Malwarebytes. See some improvement - finally able to open add/remove programs and uninstall pc mighty max 2011. Ran Malwarebytes again to remove any remaining infections, rebooted computer, desktop icons are back but still cannot open files. Downloaded kellys-korner-xp.... and downloaded the exe,fix reg but it doesn't seem to run or do anything. what now?

Apparently PC Mightymax 20xx (2009, 2010, or 2011) is considered to be a nuisance program and sometimes Spyware but I haven't found any evidence that it causes programs to not execute.

You probably had more than one thing that was causing your problems.
Malwarebytes found some of them.

Apparently sometimes Mightymax doesn't actually un-install.

Look in Add or Remove Programs.
Is the entry for Mightymax 2011 still listed, or is it gone ?
If it's still listed it may NOT have actually been un-installed.

"Downloaded kellys-korner-xp.... and downloaded the exe,fix reg but it doesn't seem to run or do anything."

You have to MERGE the file into the Registry.

Download the WinXP EXE Fix.reg file here:

Choose Save, not Run.

Note where you downloaded the file to.

Go to where the WinXP_EXE_Fix.reg file is.
(Note that it may be intially listed LAST in a folder.)

RIGHT click on the WinXP_EXE_Fix.reg file, select MERGE
Select Run.

Restart your computer.
You should then be able to run programs that are *.exe files

Other stuff.

Malwarebytes makes log files of what it did when you allow it to remove anything it finds.
Start up the Malwarebytes program and look in the log files for mentions of anything it could not remove.
