Hello all. The computer I'm trying to fix keeps shutting down after you start it. I have checked the fans, etc..they're clean and do run. I tried hitting F8 and ctrl both seperate and simultaneously to attempt a safemode start. This did not work. I get 4 messages of things that failed to initialize (mrt management, limewire, can't remember the other two at the moment). I also get a message that something in the documents & settings/temp folder is wrong) The thing is, these are all popping up and leaving so fast I can't see them all. The computer won't stay on long enough for me to attempt a uninstall/reinstall or anything for that matter. Anyone have any ideas? (keep in mind I'm not as savvy as you probably are, when it comes to computers) Thank you in advance for any ideas you can throw my way.
*hugs*(The computer in question is running windows xp home version.)

To be honest you prob got some kindof virus....
most virus expierences i have, is where the virus shuts the comp down quickly so you have no chance of fixing your computer.... can you even get into windows?

Make sure you're pressing the F8 key before the Windows logo comes up. Then, try to get into Safe Mode. I don't know why you're pressing the Ctrl key though...
Are you running an up-to-date anti-virus program?
Is the computer actually powering itself off?
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!

The messages you mentioned wouldn't have anything to do with post. Are you getting any beeps? It sounds to me like an overheating CPU problem. Open it up and watch to see if the CPU fan turns when you boot it up. Also, is the heatsink clean?

I agree with JohnO. Also you could try hitting the key that takes you to the Bios setup routine. If you get into the bios setup routine and it still shuts down, you can be pretty sure you have an overheating problem.
If it stays up, then you have a different problem.
To use F8 keep tapping it every second or two while the system is booting up.

Also if you get into windows and your comp shuts down, try heading to the start->run and then type "shutdown -a" without the brakets which will stop any shutdown procedures on you pc..if that stops that, then update all you anti-virus software and stuff like that!!

YEAH,...!??? I have the SAME ISSUE CURRENTLY. This has
happened to me twice and I'll be SCREWED this time
because I've added months of work to the hard drive! The problem started when I was trying to fix the
networking between all 3 of my home computers. After
numerous restarts, uninstalls, and re-installs, I finally got
it working but then "KABOOOOOOM", ALL COMES DOWN
CRASHING.So now, as soon as my login window appears, it shuts off.
No matter what I attempt to do, it will automatically
REBOOT after about 5-6 seconds.(Having read everyone'z suggestions; I'm gonna try
opening the case, and putting a HUGE fan pointing
towards the CPU and just leaving it overnight! If this
DOESN'T WORK,....oh boy!!!!!)ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS!????
