My PC seems to change its homepage at least once every day. Also, my games run much slower than before. I use CW Shredder which works, but only for a few hours. I tried to attach my Hijack this log, but was told not to. Can anyone help ? Please. Thanks.

does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:

CW Shredder shouldn't work for a while and then break, unless you didn't use it properly, or did something to get reinfected again. I'll guess you just ran it, cleaned some stuff and said your done. Not good enough.

First thing, update all the tools so they have the most recent updates in place. No point scanning with old versions.

You should also disable system restore and delete all restore points if you know you are infected but not sure how.

Then boot in SAFE MODE NO NETWORKING, and NOW try running CWshredder, adaware and spybot, and your anti virus tool SEVERAL TIMES until they are ALL CONVINCED nothing is left. Yes, this may take hours and you may have to run some of these 3 times ...or more!

If anything is infecting your system directories you will need to boot to COMMAND PROMPT ONLY to delete them (again I recommend safe mode no networking command prompt only), then repeat the last step.

Now that things are looking up, reboot normally and SCAN WITH ALL THESE TOOLS AGAIN with a live networking connection, AGAIN AS NEEDED UNTIL CLEAN. If you get reinfected over the network you'll know that a firewall is in order here very quickly. XP ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) works well in a pinch.

If after all this is done, and I do mean done, and your still having problems, then you would be permitted to post a log. But there isn't any point if you haven't done the basics properly.

We are interested in new and different stuff that may not be so well known, just not the same old stuff over and over again.

Give that a try and good luck,

J.

And stop using Internet Explorer. You're just begging to be hijacked or infected.

I disagree. I run IE6 on 2 machines with spybot immunized, spywareblaster and NAV. Have never been hijacked or infected. Just my 2 cents.

please post back with the fix that worked so we may help others. Thanks.

Hey Chuck, the link for the Hijack this guidelines is no longer valid, do you have a current one? I'd be interested in reading it.

Thanks!
