PC hangs at Name My Computer during restore

Specs: xp
After running restore disks in older emachines (T3065), I cannot get past the "name your PC step". I've done a disk check with Sea Tools, and it's fine. Tried cleaning all the contacts, and it doesn't help. The computer was working fine before the old hard drive crashed. There is some new hardware in it (added memory, new monitor).

Monitor shouldn't matter.

Did you try removing the extra RAM ?

I thought about that, but it just seemed that that shouldn't matter. Do you suppose it could?

Agreed it shouldn't matter if it is the correct RAM and not faulty. It's just that it is one of the things you changed before the problem came along, so it seems reasonable to eliminate that possibility as it is easy to do.

Just tried it (removing RAM). No change in the problem, but thanks for the suggestion.
