PC freezes when anything plugs usb

CPU/Ram: P4 2.4ghz/1gb

I have a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card because the other USB slots are only 1.1. I have an external HDD that works fine with it, but if I try to hook up my iPod through it, the computer immediately freezes.

I encountered this same problem before when I had a wireless PCMCIA card. The PC would freeze when the card was inserted.

My only guess is that it is an IRQ conflict, but I don't know much about them. If I tried changing the IRQ I don't know what to change it to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to see what IRQ is being assigned to the device, and then check the existing devices IRQ's. Adjust accordingly.
