When you press the power button, start tapping the F8 key to get into
Safe Mode
Select Safe Mode - Click Administrator - YES
To get into System Configuration Utility from the Desktop - Start - Run -
type = msconfig - OK
If you don't have RUN set to show you will have to right click your Start Button - Properties - find and put a check mark for RUN and OK or Apply.

. If your computer works without freezing than if your
still in System Configuration Utility start unchecking items in the
Startup Tab. This is trial and error check to see what is causing the freezing. You will have to go back to Normal start up to see if you have unchecked what's causing the problem.
You have to replace the check marks on the one you unchecked if their not the problem. Always click APPLY
If you can't get into Safe Mode reply back and someone will probably help.

Before going into Safe Mode their is Last Known Good Configuration you can try after tapping the F8 key.

If your computer works in Safe Mode you can also try Error Checking
Windows XP
1. Error Checking- CD not needed
Start - my computer - right click local disk (C) - properties - Tools Tab -
Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start -
This requires a restart to begin.

2. Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK
Don't forget the space between c and /
You will need the Recovery CD if any thing is found wrong.
Don't insert unless asked for.
