I have a Sony camcorder dcr-hs38.I use it to make videos of my mom in nursing home to send out to my family over the USA. The problem is when I came in to put my videos on my PC, their was no program to run it.I installed fire wire when I got video camera .I have not had any trouble with this setup until now .I have run this program for about 6 months with no problem.I have uninstalled this program 3 or 4 times an reinstalled it .It still does not recognize my camcorder. When I plug my fire wire into camcorder a window open and says to reinstall program so I do and nothing.I have checked Sony support and nothing. My camcorder is only 6 months old.

Sony says that the drivers are already installed in both XP and Vista. That if you are having trouble of being detected by windows that you need to update your driver files.

Go to sony website for your area as the drivers for each geographical area are different.

installing new codecs should help. too bad you hadn't mentioned if you could copy vidoes from camcorder to a computer before. maybe your camcorder is not compatible with operating system on your machine. you say your cam is new, so it should be compatible and there should be divers for xp/vista/whatever you use. if operating system is really old, then it might be difficult to find drivers. i recommend visiting google.com and typing full name of your camcorder + name of your operating sytem + word "driver".
good luck.

I have downloaded from my camcorder since I bought it to my pc and I have been to Sony's web site and they do not have anymore drivers for it ,I guess because this camcorder is analog and the new ones are digital. This just has started with my camcorder. I have been all over the web looking for a fix but everyone has a different fix that I have tried.Sony says this camcorder is no longer available, so no drivers or info.Even the cd for loading program on my pc will load but will not recognize the camcorder.I have followed the book when I first installed and went back to the book and this is where I stand now.

Do you have any other firewire devices? If so, do these devices work ok?
