I think there may be a way to boot to the xp cd and run recovery point. I know you can on vista and above.
Might have to boot to cd and run repair from xp cd.
I have some live cd's. BartsPE and UBCD4Win that I have made. They are really the best way to fix xp. I'd make one on someone's computer and try the tools to fix yours.
