I start up my pc and it stays on for a maximum of two seconds, then dies. Afterwards nothing works, the power switch and reset switch do nothing and my monitor doesn't even flicker on. I have to unplug the power supply cord and plug it back in for something to happen, then it happens all over again. I've scanned over the motherboard to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be plugged in.
I'm stumped, help?

Step 1, make sure the pc is plugged in directly to the wall (no power bars). Next while powering up the computer, is the green light on the power supply blinking? Try discharging the capacitors with everything at the back of the computer unplugged/disconnected.
Still no luck? Switch the voltage switch under the power cable from 115 to 230 and then back to 115 again. Open up the pc and re-seat the ram chips, video card and the power supply cable. Still no luck...the your power supply bit the dust.

ok, all the systems turn on and the lightins in the front stay on for a few seconds, then the whole thing dies and won't turn back on.
where are the capacitors?
I did the whole cleaning bit, and reconected everything. Then I switched the voltage.
Still nothing.

Discharging the capacitors is when you press and hold in the power button on the front of the computer for 30 seconds with everything unplugged disconnected, some people call it a "power flee" because your trying to release the power in the capacitors in the power supply.
Test if the pc will go and stay in the bios. Turn on the pc and when the 3 lights on your keyboard blink (unless you have a wireless keyboard) tap the F1 key on the keyboard a few times to get in the bios. Stay in the bios for a while with doing nothing. Does it stay in the bios setting? If yes then you have an windows/os problem if no it turns off still the try again to get into the bios and reset the bios by once in there hit the F5 key say yes then F10 then enter.
At the back of the pc do you see a blinking light?
