Okay, here's the scenario.
HP Pavilllion Computer, about a year old.
Installed linux.
Regretted it.
No restore disks.
Borrowed an XP disc off of friend.
Started to install.
Formatted drive to a FAT32 whatever thingy cos it recommended it.
While installing XP, it kept freezing when it told me there was 34 minutes left.
Would shut computer off, try again next day.
Install would stop and freeze at same place.
Left it to keep chugging away just in case.
Hours later, nothing.
Gave up.
About a week later I realized that I should give disc back to friend.
Try one more time.
Press power button.
Nothing.
Doesn't even TRY to power up.
Little green light at back of computer is on.
Computer is receiving power.
Computer now, for some reason, refuses to start.
Tried different cord.
Tried different plug.
Tried shifting little red slide button at back.
Nothing.
Green light stay son.
Computer does absolutely nothing when I press power.
Don't know what happened in that week where I did nothing with the computer.Any ideas?

Hp's come with the software to make a recovery disk installed on the HD. If you don't use it, and then removed all software from the HD you have nothing. Contact HP to buy a new XP disk.

This is just a sig

so that's why the xp stalled during installation?
so if I ever get the machine running again, the new installation i'm doing won't work at all?

I would disconnect all cd roms and hard drives and see if will at least post.
Then reconnect one at a time....and if it fails your power supply is going.
Next time you install win xp format it in ntfs.
Has nothing to do with the stall or not starting up....as my first guess is the power supply....got maxed out trying to read the cdrom and write to the hard dive at the same time.

Can you get into the BIOS?
