Is there any way I can set my PC up to run as a fax machine? Basically theres a document i need to recieve tomorrow and the only way of sending it is as a fax. I'm running windows XP and my internet connection is ADSL thru a motorola SB4200 cable modem.

You would need a dial up modem. You cannot run fax on a broadband connection. Then, with the right software you can do it.

Yes, there is a program on your installation CD (at least there is on WinXP home), just install that fax program and then, before the person sends the fax to you, call them to send it and just start your fax program....you should get the fax. I use mine for faxing all the time. You may have to have your ordinary modem running for this to work....I'm just on dial-up. So just have a line running to your dial-up and it should work for you.
Post back if it works, ok?
Thanks

If your car is running good...don't give it a tune-up....same goes for your PC....and when in doubt...try a system restore to the point when the PC ran good...it WORKS!

So if I install a dialup modem (should have the old one lying around somewhere) I can use the winXP software and they just send the fax to our phone number?

yes ... install the modem ... the got control panel ... add/remove programs ... add/remove windows components ... select microsoft fax ... have your installation cd ready.

it's just basic fax operations ... if you're looking for something more sophisticated try winfax pro

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

I run WinFax Pro on a PC, which I consider my fax server because it runs day and night and receives faxes unattended. It alerts me when I received a fax, and of course I can also send faxes of any kind with customized cover page. Excellent program, which I highly recommend, and with more features than Microsoft Fax.
