hi, is there a way you can put a password on a folder so it requests it when you try and open the folder, i have some folders on my computer i dont want my children to get into in case they delete any data, there only young, i know you can hide folders but id feel safer if i could password it. any ideas?

In w2k, and maybe XP:

cipher /?
Displays or alters the encryption of directories [files] on NTFS partitions.

If the partition is FAT, you may need a 3rd party util.


If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Hi,
You could right click on the file/folder select sharing and security and then tick make this folder private, it will then put your password on it. that is if you have one.

jimbo Iknow this is not really what u asked for but this is what i do.This magic folder program to tally makes the folders invisible, other programs cannot access thsm as long as there invisible. You can't even tell they exhist. I make one folder invisible and i just add sub folders within it.
