There used to be an AOL scam where you'd get a seemly legit e-mail saying you'd just been sent an "AOL InstaKiss" - to pick it up, please enter your AOL screenname & password. Although there is such a thing as an InstaKiss, the e-mail was bogus & was used as a way to steal passwords.

Do you recall receiving any type of e-mail requesting you to login with your name & password? You may have given it out yourself without realizing it.

just a note:

I've also seen a I forgot my password scam, obviously this works :P

If you really are the legit owner of an account and it really got hacked, then your only option is thru contacting hotmail themselves. Hopefully you filled out the registration truthfully (unlike me) and maybe able to get it back.

Otherwise cut your loses and start from scratch.

Truth can become lie, but if lies become truth we're in trouble.
