Is there a way on XP, of sharing folders, but placing passwords on certain access or maybe easire certain users.

Administrator should be able to have access to everything. User with Administrative profile, only have access to certain items ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Scott

When you share a folder that you only want admins to have access to remove the everyone group in permissions and add the administrators group and then only users in the admins group will be able to view it and modify it if change permissions are set.

My XP does not have a security tab on it. This pisses me off. I want very much to set permissions for my printer and file shares. Can someone tell me how to get this tab back? I miss it.

You're probably having "Simple file sharing (Recommended)" enabled.

Windows Explorer: Tools -> Folder Options -> View (tab), then disable simple file sharing (it's the last option on my computer).

"DISPLAY SIMPLE FILE SHARING" is the second option on my XP - HOME version.

Looks like it can't be done in XP Home
Edition. "Simple File Sharing" (read
completely insecure file sharing) can't be
disabled in XP Home Edition. Following
is from a Knowledge Base article:

SUMMARY

This article describes how to disable
simplified sharing. Note that you cannot
disable simplified sharing in Microsoft
Windows XP Home Edition.

By default, simplified sharing is enabled
on a Windows XP-based computer if the
computer is not a member of a domain.
Simplified sharing lets you easily share
folders with everyone on your workgroup
or network and make folders in your user
profile private. However, if simplified
sharing is enabled, you cannot prevent
specific users and groups from gaining
access to your shared folders. If you
disable simplified sharing, you can allow
specific users and groups to gain access
to a shared folder; those users must
provide a password to gain access to
your shared folder.
