Are now done with your "don't tell me" rants? Why does the background (a graphic file, no less) have to specifically be "password-protected"? Is not the feature/ability to customize the background what you want to password-protect?

Of course, the rest of us are useless and obvious, and must be subject to your whims. Therefore, that hardly leaves me in a mood to suggest any approach whatsoever.

Here's a better way of couching your post which would have not resulted in the reply
you got at #1:

Can someone suggest a way to password protect my desktop background?
I would prefer not to put a lock on my PC or set up another account

[In fact, giving some clue why you wish to do so could help too because sometimes there is more than one way to approach things]

specifically the answer is no because it is already protected

if you don't want your stuff being changed then...
don't let others logon under your account
don't let others logon under an administrator account
do make user accounts that are limited and have others logon under them

then spend some time reviewing the word 'tact'

after that spend some time googling user accounts so you can understand how unreasonable your request is to have someone logon under your account and expect them not to have the ability to change things.

its like asking that others can drive your car but they can't use your gas.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
