anyone know if there is a way to password protect MS outlook? I know there is a standard way to always prompt for your login credentials, but I need a way to make it a different password.

The reason is that I have a client who has other people who know his login credentials because they need to use his computer. However his credentials for outlook are obviously the same, so i need a way to protect outlook emails with a different pass.

This may be slightly different as I'm doing with a mix of Office 2007 and memory!

Simon's advice will change the password Outlook uses to check the account, but it will not change the account password.

You say, "The reason is that I have a client who has other people who know his login credentials because they need to use his computer." There's your first problem. Users should have their own individual accounts.

"However his credentials for outlook are obviously the same, so i need a way to protect outlook emails with a different pass." They two are not necessarily the same. The user's account login on the computer is not necessarily the same as the email account and authentication password.

Since you've chosen not to utilize Windows built-in features of separate accounts for each user, then you need to assign a password to the pst file. You haven't said which version of Outlook you're using, but here's what your user needs to do:

Go to the Data Files
Select the Mail Delivery File
Settings
Change Password
Null Old Password
Enter New Password
Confirm it
OK
OK
Close
Close

Make sure the user understands it's a very difficult recovery if this password is forgotten.

For future reference, Outlook questions should be posted in the Office Forum.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
