My kid changed the password on his computer and can't remember what it is. Nobody can login on to the computer anymore. Is there anyway to reset the password for the admin account?

Thanks.

You can use this method if you have an XP cd.

Use safe mode if you have to.

I use SIW for Licenses & Passwords.

First mistake is using the default administrator account for everyday computing. That defeats the purpose and takes away your fall back login.

How can you tell if this is kosher? I hope I am not telling you how to get into someones pc.

You need to get Ophcrack Windows XP ISO
Burn the ISO to a CD
Reboot using the Ophcrack CD
When Ophcrack Menu appears, press enter.
Ophcrack then loads and starts to work on the password hashes.
When the password is recovered reboot into Windows XP
