Im running Windows 98SE on P3 550Mhz 16GB HDD 256MB RAM.
I want to make it dual boot with WinXP, i have tried installing WinXP (advanced mode) so I can create a partition to make it dual boot, but at the prompt it says press C to create a partition, but nothing happens.
Do i need to create the partition before i install XP? If so how? Can i do it from Win98 or DOS?
Hope someone can help!

If the drive was originally just one big partition and win98 is on that partition I don't think that you can resize that partition without losing all the data on your hard drive. There may be some software out there that lets you do this but I certainly haven't heard of it.

Partition magic from powerquest will allow you to partition your hard drive without destroying data.

Biz is correct. Partition Magic will do it without destroying your data, BB-UU-TT, never make that assumption. Always backup the really important things before doing anything to your hard-drive. Then if something happens you will still have that data. If nothing happens (as usually happens) then you just have a backup of your critical data incase something else happens.

With you on that one Mo. Personal experience has taught me to backup, it can save many frustrating hours of trying to retrieve data. Don't fret Sy it wasn't whilst using partition magic.
