Partition Question

OS: WinXP w/SP2
CPU/Ram: AMD64 3200+ / 1024mb 2 x

i have a 200gb sata hdd and i have it partitioned to 3 drives. if i were to format c: and reinstall the OS on it, will i have to format my other 2 partitions or are they ok? so everything on my other 2 drives wont be affected and i can access them like normal when i have reinstalled the OS on my c: again?

Formatting c: won't affect the data on d: e:, etc. It's possible though that the new installation might initially letter your partitions differently, so that your CDROM is D: but before maybe it was E:, but you can change those drive letters later.

If this is NTFS and there are multiple users, especially if you have used encryption, you might have security issues. However, if you have not used encryption, and previously and with the new OS will be the only user and be an administrator, there should not be any problems.

You'll need to backup the registry, otherwise you'll have to reinstall the programs located on the other drives

I would definitely not try restoring the old registry over that of a new install.

If there are programs on the other partitions they should be re-installed.

There is a known issue with access denied to the other partition files because of ownership issues. Using the security tab add administrator to the root and check the inheritance box for all subfolders on the other partitions to gain access to their files.
