Partition Magic locks in Win XP

Everytime I try to resize my partiton on my 80gb WD drive using partition magic 8.0 it locks in the same spot. It locks when it is clearing truncated partition and then I have to boot with my XP cd and run chkdsk to fix the problem. Does anyone have a solution to my problem of partition magic locking?
