Comment:

hi,

I have two drives C & D, both of which are NTFS and I have winXP installed. Now I want to make some space for linux in D drive, so I started partition magic 7 to split drive D. but:

Partition magic shows me only C and for the other drive it says Unallocated which is very strange because drive D does exist. However, I ignored this and right clicked on it to create a new partition NTFS on it. It accepts the tasks but when I click the apply button it does not carry out the operations display the following error:

Error #986
Unable to get information from the specified partition.

Does anybody encountered such a problem, or does someone have any idea about how to fix it?

Please help!

Also see this article about SUBST and VSUBST drive mapping and make sure your drive isn't compressed.
