partial install file removal

I'm trying to remove files associated with a partial secondary XP install but don't know where to find them. The startup options file lists two OS's:
[operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
I want to get rid of any extraneous files associated with the first OS. On a side note, I notice that when I boot to the second OS, the automatic windows update tries to download a very large amount of data although if I initiate update manually, it says my system is up to date. Is this the first OS somehow trying to download and install all of the updates (e.g. SP1 and numerous security/critical updates) that I've already installed in my original OS (the second listed) or something else altogether? What can I do to stop this? Any info appreciated!!
Summary: I have installed XP Pro and managed to skip past the feature that copies the install files onto your hard disc. Is there any way to transfer these files retrospectively?? ...
