Comment:

I recently inherited a Epson 836 XL scanner. My computer has a parallel port. I have tried every whch way to connect it and get it running but when I go to open it in Epson Scan it tells me it is cannot be opened. What settings do I need in my Bios for the port and mode? I was completely confused reading the manuals and Q&A on the Epson site.

Are there drivers available for XP? If so, did you install those first BEFORE connecting the hardware?

Here's a link to Epson support for the Expression 836XL:

You can find both drivers and documentation here for your scanner.
