I am unable to keep my paging file size over 766 MB. When I try setting it to a larger fixed custom size, the entries are saved, but when I click OK, the total paging file size for all drives still reads 766. Rebooting doesn't help. I have plenty of free disk space. Does anyone have an idea about this?

Did you click the "Set" button after you changed the pagefile ?

Simple I know , but some people do miss this step

Right, I've made that mistake in the past. But not this time. The correct entry is set in the Virtual Memory box; it's just that when I OK back into the Advanced tab of the Performance Options box it reads 766.

I have just installed Zone Alarm Security Suite. It seems like sometime in the past I dumped the free version of Zone Alarm firewall because of this problem, but I'm not sure. In any case, turning off Zone Alarm doesn't help.

Thanks.

Have you run chkdsk /f on the drive letter in question and have you degragged your drive?

Did all of that plus a surface scan.

The 766 is right at 1.5X my RAM (512 X 1.5 = 768), so I believe that is where that came from. Someone with 256 of RAM having the same problem might hit a ceiling of about 384, with 1012 of RAM a ceiling of 1518, etc.

I know I've had this problem before, and to the best of my recollection on a different computer, but I can find very little about it on the net. I’m just surprised that no one else has encountered it.

Thanks.
