I built a new computer, it has a tiny hd and I'm trying to conserve space. I found a file Pagefile.sys its over 800mb...is there a reason for this file. I heard you can't delete but you can clean it? any info on reducing the size of it would be aprechiated.

pagefile is your virtual memory. you can reduce it but it's not recommended unless you have a good amount of physical memory (ram). if you have less than 128mb i'd advise you to leave it. or just buy a bigger hard drive.

If possible I would leave the Pagefile alone. Here's some tips I used to use on my 6 gig hdd. I still use most of them now, even after I got a bigger drive.
System restore will chew up harddrive space fast, try disabling or reducing the amount of space it will use.
If you have hibernation enabled (which is the default) that will take up how ever many megs of ram you have.
The files in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache" will take up 300-400 megs, they can be deleted by running sfc /purgecache from the run box (WinKey+R).
There is a file named driver.cab that is around 75megs, it can be deleted. It can be found in C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 The only side effect to deleting this is that anytime your system needs a new driver that you don't have it will ask you to insert your xp cd.
You can also search your harddrive for *.bak and *.tmp and delete these files. You might want to leave them in your recycle bin for a couple of days but I've never had any problems deleting these files.
Turning down the size of the temporary internet files folder may help. It's set way to high by default. If I remember right mine is set to 192 megs after a clean install of Xp.
If you need any help doing any of this let me know and I explain how to do it.
Hope this helps,
Sandman
