How can I delete pagefile.sys from c:\ with either the XP command prompt or recovery prompt? Attrib will not work, says not to be used in DOS Mode(??) What happened was my Dad got a dig. camera and put ALL his pics on the C:\ partition and used up all space but 30 mb, so I need to free up space cause windows WILL NOT BOOT. I can get to DOS prompt with boot disk, but attrib will not let me unhide pagefile.sys to delete. I also tried the Recovery XP CD and no good there either. I also tried copying any INI file as pagefile.sys and then deleting pagefile.sys, but did not work (guess only works for WIN2000). Microsoft is NO help, big surprise. Can anyone help me? Please. Once I can get into windows I can fix the pic issue and move over to another partition.

If you have room for the pic files on another partition, it might be better to just use Dos commands to move them over. Windows will automatically recreate the page file.
Boot to Dos and type
md x:\picfiles (md = make directory))x=other drive)
You will have to substitute the real folder location string in place of "c:\folder1\folder2\picfolder. Include the double quotes!

Delete all of the files out of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache folder. These files are for backup purposes and deleting them will not hurt anything. Once you get things running again click start>run and paste sfc /scannow and click ok. Then the files will be replaced in the Dllcache folder.
Hope this helps, Sandman
