Please,

could someone tell me how to unprotect these files. I want to del pagefile.sys on my C: drive, as I have relocated my virtual memory
to another partition.

Is their any way to reduce the footprint of these files. They're immense.

Any help is much appreciated,

dil

You can't delete your pagefile...that's the equivalent to a swap file in '98. To turn off hibernation go into your power settings and uncheck use hibernation and that will take care of deleting your hiberfil.sys file...

I keep getting error messages that the hiberfil.sys file is missing. Where does it come from and where does it belong so I can add it?

Thank you.

Anyone know how to get hiberfil.sys to live on a drive other than c:?

I've got stacks of room on my d: partition but my c drive is full up and hiberfil.sys wants 327 mb!

Any help appreciated

Like the files "Boot.ini", "NTLDR" and "Ntdetect.com", "Hiberfil.sys" has to be in the root folder of the drive that holds the Windows 2000/xp boot sector information.
Hiberfil.sys = Hibernation file: This file contains the memory dump, which allows to hibernate so if you have 64Mb Ram, this file will be about 64Mb, with 128Mb it also will be 128Mb, etc.

Apparently you can delete your pagefile.sys if you have it on another partition. Normally you would have to just right click My Computer, click Properties, Click the Advanced Tab, click Performance Options, click Change and then set both min and max pagefile settings to 0. You will have to reboot after this and there you go. Just make sure you have created the pagefile on another partition before hand.
