These to system files on the root of C:\ have become extremely big recently - about 300MB each. Is this normal? If not, then how could I get them back to their normal size?

the pagefile.sys will be by default about 1.5 times the size of your memory. The hiberfile.sys will always be the total size of your Ram.

So, pagefile.sys must be the equivalent of win386.swp in Win9x, isn't it?
Well, thanks for the wisdom, everyone.

Just use the recommended XP defaults, it shows clearly in the Virtual Memory options what that should be, its best to have this pagefile.sys on another disk that is equally fast or faster than the OS disk.
